I found this recipe in "Organic Body Care Recipes" by Stephanie Tourles and fell in love with it.  It's highlighted in the book as a hydrating cleansing cream or facial lotion, but I found the most benefit from it when my daughter had raging skin issues - spurred on by food sensitivities and leaky gut.  Once I figured in a good combination of essential oils, it soothed her skin and relieved the itching.

INGREDIENTS
1/4 C almond or sunflower oil
2 TB coconut oil
2 TB beeswax
1 tsp anhydrous lanolin
1/4 C pure aloe vera juice
3 TB strong calendula flower tea
1 TB vegetable glycerin
1/4 tsp borax
1/8 tsp vitamin e
30 drops essential oil of choice (see below for ideas)
ESSENTIAL OIL OPTIONS
Chapped/Cracked:  Myrrh or Topical Blend
Dehydrated:  Geranium and/or Lavender
Inflammation:  Topical Blend, Helichrysum or Juniper Berry
Oily:  Topical Blend
Scarring:  Lavender (burns), Frankincense and/or Helichrysum
Stretch Marks:  Lavender and Myrrh
Wrinkles:  Anti-Aging Blend
DIRECTIONS
  • In a small saucepan over low heat warm the base oils, beeswax and lanolin until the wax is just melted.
  • In another pan, lightly warm the aloe vera juice, tea and vegetable glycerin, and stir in the borax until it dissolves in the liquid.
  • Remove both pans from heat and allow to cool.  The oils/wax/lanolin mixture needs to cool until it just begins to thicken and becomes slightly opaque.  It will be like a soft, loose salve.  As it thickens, give the mixture a few stirs to remove any lumps.
  • Blend your oils/wax/lanolin mixture with a hand mixer on medium speed.  Slowly drizzle in the aloe/tea/glycerin/borax mixture.  Blend until the mixture is fully incorporated.
  • Mix in the vitamin e and essential oils until blended in completely.
  • Cool mixture and store in a mason jar in the refrigerator.  (Yield: 1 Cup)
The mixture tends to separate if the temperatures of the oils and liquids are not relatively equal and cooled.  If your mixture starts to separate a little, just drain off the liquid.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I have!
